What is Robinhood Chain?
Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain built by Robinhood, the US brokerage. It launched its public mainnet on July 1, 2026, after a testnet earlier in the year, and was designed to support real-world assets and decentralized finance applications onchain.
In practice, memecoins dominated the first two weeks of mainnet. By July 8, the chain was recording over $560 million in daily DEX volume, with a single memecoin, CASHCAT, accounting for roughly $98 million of it. This guide covers both sides: the chain on paper, and what actually traded on it.
How Robinhood Chain works
Robinhood Chain is an Arbitrum Nitro Layer 2 built on Ethereum. It uses Ethereum blobs for data availability and posts transaction batches back to Ethereum mainnet, inheriting Ethereum's security while running execution on a faster and cheaper Layer 2 environment.
Gas is paid in ETH.
Transactions confirm in two stages. The sequencer returns a soft confirmation in sub-second time, which is fast enough for everyday interactions. Full Ethereum finality takes longer, roughly 13 minutes after a batch is posted to Ethereum, and is what high-value operations should wait for.
Sequencing is first-come, first-served. Transactions are ordered by arrival time at the sequencer, not by priority fee. Paying more will not move a transaction ahead of others already in the queue.
Sequencer-level compliance screening. Robinhood Chain applies compliance filtering at the sequencer, meaning transactions from sanctioned addresses are excluded from inclusion. This is unusual for a permissionless chain and reflects Robinhood's position as a regulated operator.
EVM-compatible. Any Solidity or Vyper contract deploys without modification, and standard Ethereum tooling works out of the box. Chain ID is 4663.
Key features
Permissionless deployment. Robinhood Chain is open and permissionless. Anyone can interact with the network, build applications, and deploy smart contracts without approval from Robinhood.
Day-one DeFi ecosystem. At launch, Uniswap deployed a dedicated AMM on Robinhood Chain as the primary public liquidity venue, alongside Pleiades' proprietary AMM. Chainlink provides price feeds, and Alchemy and BitGo are among the infrastructure providers live from day one.
AI-native positioning. Robinhood markets Robinhood Chain as an "AI-native" Layer 2, purpose-built for AI agents that can autonomously trade, swap, and lend onchain.
These features combined created ideal conditions for memecoin trading, which is what happened next.
Memecoins on Robinhood Chain
Robinhood Chain's early activity has been dominated by memecoins. On July 8, the chain recorded roughly $560M in daily DEX volume, briefly overtaking Hyperliquid. That same day, CEO Vlad Tenev posted on X that Robinhood Chain "works great for memes too." By July 10, volume peaked at $846.8M with active addresses hitting an all-time high of 306,893. Independent trackers report memecoins accounted for more than 75% of Robinhood Chain trading in early July.
Top Robinhood Chain memecoins
CASHCAT. The chain's flagship memecoin. Named after "CashCat," a name Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt reportedly considered for Robinhood before choosing the current name. An anonymous deployer resurrected the reference as a token. Peaked above $400M market cap and accounted for roughly 79% of the top 25 Robinhood Chain memecoins' combined market cap. Not officially affiliated with Robinhood.
Dog In Hood (DIH). The largest non-CASHCAT memecoin, roughly 16x smaller than CASHCAT at its peak.
4663. A token with the same numeric identifier as Robinhood Chain's Chain ID (4663).
HOODIE. An AI-branded memecoin. Saw sharp intraday swings, including a ~50% drop in a single afternoon.
Others in circulation. Robinhood Pepe (REPE), Hoodrat, Robinhood Summer, Dog in a Suit (SUIT), The Green Bull (VLAD). All Robinhood-themed, community-deployed, none officially affiliated with Robinhood.
How to get started
Backpack Wallet supports Robinhood Chain natively. Here's how to start interacting with the network.
1. Open Backpack Wallet
Launch your Backpack Wallet app and ensure it is updated to the latest version. If you don't have Backpack Wallet yet, download it from backpack.app or your device's app store.
2. Add Robinhood Chain
Because Robinhood Chain is EVM-compatible, your existing Ethereum wallet address can serve as your Robinhood Chain address. Adding Robinhood Chain to Backpack Wallet works the same way as other EVM networks.

3. Fund your wallet
Deposit supported assets into your Backpack Wallet to start using Robinhood Chain. Gas fees are paid in ETH, so make sure you have some in your wallet before transacting.
4. Bridge assets to Robinhood Chain
Bridge tokens from Solana, Ethereum, and other supported chains into Robinhood Chain in seconds, directly from Backpack Wallet. Moving assets back out works the same way.
- Tap the Swap tab and switch to Bridge
- Select the tokens to send and receive, then enter the amount
- Choose your destination wallet and tap Review Bridge
- Review the transaction and approve

5. Trade what's trending
See what tokens and memecoins are moving on Robinhood Chain, and swap into them directly from Backpack Wallet.
6. Explore the Robinhood Chain ecosystem
Use the in-wallet explorer to discover applications built on Robinhood Chain and start interacting directly within Backpack Wallet.

Your Backpack Wallet is now connected to Robinhood Chain. You can view balances, manage assets, and interact with decentralized applications without leaving the app.
Risks
Like any new blockchain, Robinhood Chain comes with risks users should understand before trading.
Scam tokens. Some tokens on Robinhood Chain use honeypot contracts that trap funds after purchase. Always verify contract addresses before trading.
Volatility. Memecoins on new chains can lose most of their value quickly. CASHCAT fell more than 37% from its all-time high within days of peaking.
Sequencer centralization. Robinhood operates the sole sequencer that orders transactions, meaning the chain's uptime depends on Robinhood.
What's next for Robinhood Chain
Robinhood Chain launched publicly in July 2026 and is still in its first weeks of mainnet activity. Most trading today is in memecoins, with other onchain applications continuing to launch. How that balance shifts in the coming months will define what the chain becomes in practice.
