MON Tokenomics Overview

MON is the native token that powers the Monad protocol, used for transaction fees and staking to secure the network. At the launch of Monad Public Mainnet (24 November 2025), the total initial supply of MON will be 100 billion tokens.

Initial Supply Breakdown

‍

• Public Sale: Up to 7.5 billion MON (7.5%) will be available through Coinbase at $0.025 per token. Any unsold tokens will move to Ecosystem Development.
  ‍
• Airdrop: Around 3.3 billion MON (3.3%) were claimed in the community airdrop by 230,000 eligible wallets across five categories.
  ‍
• Ecosystem Development: About 38.5 billion MON (38.5%) are allocated for ecosystem growth and managed by the Monad Foundation. Less than 2% of this is currently committed; the rest will fund future grants, validator delegations, and incentives over many years.

• Team: Roughly 27 billion MON (27%) are allocated to Monad Foundation and Category Labs team members. These tokens are locked for the first year post-mainnet and vest over the following three years.

• Investors: About 19.7 billion MON (19.7%) are allocated to investors from Category Labs’ previous fundraising rounds. They follow a four-year lock-up with a one-year cliff and monthly vesting.

• Category Labs Treasury: 3.95 billion MON (3.95%) reserved for future employee compensation, under the same four-year lock-up as investors.

Unlocked vs Locked Tokens

At launch, about 49.4 billion MON (49.4%) will be unlocked and usable for transactions, comprising public sale, airdrop, and ecosystem allocations. The remaining 50.6 billion MON (50.6%) are locked for team, investors, and the Category Labs Treasury. Locked tokens cannot be staked, a design intended to prevent initial reward centralization. All locked tokens are expected to be fully unlocked by Q4 2029.

Token Supply Changes

MON’s supply will adjust through inflation and burning:

• Inflation: Each block mints 25 MON as validator rewards, equating to roughly 2 billion MON per year (~2% of initial supply).
