What Is a Monad Wallet?
A Monad wallet is a crypto wallet that supports the Monad network. It allows users to manage MON and other Monad assets, sign transactions, and connect to applications built on Monad. MON is the network’s native token and is used to pay transaction fees.
Monad is a Layer 1 blockchain compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. As a result, Monad uses the same 0x address format as Ethereum and works with many familiar Ethereum tools, smart contracts, and wallet standards. However, Monad is a separate blockchain with its own native token, network activity, and application ecosystem.
Monad Public Mainnet launched on November 24, 2025. It is separate from Monad Testnet, which continues to operate for development and testing. Testnet MON has no market value and cannot be transferred to Mainnet. Guides that describe claiming free MON from a faucet are describing Monad Testnet. Mainnet MON has to be acquired, either on an exchange or by bridging from another network.
What Can You Do With a Monad Wallet?
Hold and transfer assets. Manage MON, Monad-based tokens, and NFTs, then send them to other supported Monad addresses.
Swap tokens. Swap MON and ecosystem tokens directly in supported wallets or through decentralized exchanges on Monad.
Use applications. Connect to lending, trading, yield, and consumer applications across the Monad ecosystem.
Collect NFTs. Mint, collect, transfer, and trade NFTs through Monad marketplaces and applications.
Stake and earn MON. MON can generate yield rather than sit idle. Depending on the wallet, users can stake MON directly or connect to a staking protocol.
How Monad Differs From Other EVM Networks
Monad uses familiar EVM wallet standards, but its network architecture changes how quickly transactions are processed and finalized.
Following Monad's July 2026 network upgrade, Mainnet produces a block every 300 milliseconds and reaches deterministic finality in approximately 600 milliseconds. Ethereum, by comparison, operates in 12-second slots.
From a wallet user's perspective, that can mean less time watching a transaction remain pending and faster updates after sending, swapping, or interacting with an application. The wallet interface may still depend on its own RPC provider and indexing infrastructure.
Monad achieves this performance while remaining EVM-compatible through asynchronous and parallel execution. Validators agree on transaction ordering before execution is completed, allowing execution to use more of the available block time. Transactions without conflicting dependencies can also be processed in parallel while preserving the same final result as sequential EVM execution.
Why Use Backpack Wallet for Monad?

Keep control of your assets. Backpack is self-custodial, so users control their private keys and recovery phrase. It also supports hardware wallets, real-time scam protection, and NFT locking.
Access Backpack Exchange. Move between the self-custodial wallet and Backpack Exchange within the same app to access separate trading and yield products.
How to Create a Monad Wallet on Backpack
Open Backpack Wallet
Launch the Backpack Wallet mobile app or browser extension and make sure it is updated to the latest version.
Add the Monad Wallet
Add Monad from the network selector. Because Monad is EVM-compatible, your existing Ethereum wallet can also generate a corresponding Monad address.
Balances and assets remain separate across networks, even when the address format is the same.
Fund Your Wallet
Transfer MON or another supported asset to your Monad address using Monad Mainnet.
Monad uses MON as its native gas token, so keep some MON available to cover transaction fees.
Bridge Assets
Bridge supported tokens from Ethereum, Solana, or other available networks into Monad directly from Backpack Wallet.
- Open the Swap tab and switch to Bridge.
- Select the sending and receiving networks.
- Choose the assets and enter the amount.
- Review the destination address, fees, and estimated amount.
- Confirm the transaction.
Stake and Earn MON
Open MON in Backpack Wallet and select Stake and Earn to view the current APY. Enter the amount, review the staking terms, and confirm the transaction.

Phantom Is Ending Monad Support: How to Move to Backpack
Phantom will end support for Monad on August 26, 2026. After that date, users will no longer be able to view Monad balances, send or swap Monad assets, or connect to Monad applications through Phantom.
Your MON, tokens, and NFTs will not disappear. They remain on the Monad blockchain and can still be accessed using the recovery phrase or private key associated with the wallet. There is no deadline for restoring access through another compatible wallet.
Move Your Monad Wallet to Backpack
To continue using the same Monad address, import your existing Phantom wallet into Backpack. Importing does not move the assets onchain; it gives Backpack access to the same address and balances using the existing wallet credentials.
- Open Phantom and go to Settings.
- Select Security & Privacy.
- Select Show Recovery Phrase and record it securely offline.
- Open the official Backpack Wallet app or browser extension.
- Add a Monad wallet.
- Select Import Wallet, then choose Recovery Phrase.
- Enter your recovery phrase directly in Backpack.
- Select the EVM address that matches your Phantom Monad address.
- Confirm that the same Monad address and assets appear in Backpack.
If the Monad address does not appear, check whether the relevant wallet was originally added to Phantom through a separate recovery phrase or private key. Phantom advises exporting and importing each additional credential separately.
Never enter your recovery phrase on a website or share it with anyone claiming to offer migration support. Only enter it directly inside the official Backpack Wallet app or extension.
How to Keep Your Monad Wallet Secure
Your recovery phrase is the master key to your wallet. Anyone who obtains it may be able to control the associated assets, and Backpack cannot recover it on your behalf.
Three practices provide most of the protection.
Store the recovery phrase offline. Write it down and keep it somewhere secure. Avoid screenshots, email, cloud documents, or other easily exposed digital copies. Backpack Support will never ask for your recovery phrase.
Consider a hardware wallet for larger balances. A compatible hardware wallet keeps private keys offline while Backpack remains the interface for viewing assets and approving transactions. Backpack supports Ledger, Trezor, and Keystone, alongside real-time scam protection and NFT collection locking for supported projects.
Confirm the network as well as the address. Monad uses the same 0x address format as Ethereum, Base, Polygon, and other EVM networks, but balances remain separate on each chain. Sending through the wrong network may require additional recovery steps and can be difficult or impossible when the receiving platform does not support that network.
Keep Backpack updated and install it only through official sources. Updates may include security fixes, while fake wallet extensions and applications may be designed to capture recovery phrases.
